"Organizized"

So the baby spiders are slowly, but surely, coming along.  I now have all the lambs' wool I need to complete the egg sack.  About 60 - 70 spiders are done now, and to be honest with myself... I think I'm going to need double that.  They are happening faster as I figured out the rhythm.  Between tonight and class time tomorrow, I feel I'll hit my goal.

Really can't wait to paint details on them and add legs.

These photos are from the very very beginning of my doll-head-base idea.  I have three doll heads (not this one pictured) from when my Nanny was a baby.  They are close to destroyed so I wanted to find a way to display them safely and creatively.  I am making jack rabbit bodies in various poses to use as stands for the heads to rest on.  I will also be crafting bunny ears from real rabbit fur for tie-on ears that will be placed on the doll heads.

This body has come a long way from the photo here, and I'm beginning to really love this side project.  More photos soon.

Arachnid

These are the found-wood pieces that I scavenged from my Great Grand Dad Bliss's farm.  I'm using them to display 2D and 3D works.  I think finally making this part of the process real (aka finally getting these pieces transported home), helped me see the bigger picture.  I feel I have a lot more creative direction than when I was merely laboring over sketches.

Currently I am working on 2 large pieces on paper, 2 on wood, 3 woven spider webs, and I am ready to begin work on 40+ spiderlings and their mother.

For the spider installation, I decided to light the egg sack from within and make the finish installation seem celestial.  This weekend I purchased some 16 gauge wire (200 ft, ready for future projects).  I plan on getting styrofoam today to stick wire through so that I can build the spiderling bodies without distorting them with the pressure from my fingers. I hope to work on 5 at a time.

A few things I still need to solidify and start construction on are the material for the legs of the spiders, the web string material, and the possible infrastructure of the egg sack.  I plan on tying this up today.

Here are a few of the photos I took to study the mama spider in our kitchen window.  She has hatched 5 egg sacks since the beginning of the summer.  This was my inspiration for the project.

Holy Mountain

700 photos later... we have a stop-motion featuring the magic of detaching from reality and plugging into the imagination.   After scrapping the mold experiment, I decided to let Parker and Milo go wild on a 5 gallon bucket of clay.  I recorded the audio, which is priceless.  They go through building volcanoes to working on a patient with needles.

Tomorrow I am wrapping up mixing the audio with the stop motion.  Critique is on Tuesday.
