Mixed Media at Montessori!

This past Friday I took a wagon full of mixed media supplies to Parker's studio.  The learners in her studio are ages 6 - 9yrs old.   I brought a long rectangle piece of wood for pairs of learners to work on either end.  It was really interesting to see which groups chose to work together on the entire piece of wood, who kept their sides completely separate, and which groups met in the middle to collaborate.

I was blown away by how thoughtful their questions and process were!   They were very respectful of one another and the supplies.  They politely shared and exchanged media.   The learners were great listeners, and they were even better teachers!   I learned a lot!  

It didn't take any time at all for them to start experimenting.  I gave them a few loose examples of how different media react to one another, but mostly the kids made their own path of exploration from the start.  Each child's path was so uniquely individual.  It was such a beautiful experience!
